How to get there?
Located 100km south of Hanoi, close to the National Road No. 1 and the Ninh Binh railway station, Tam Coc is easily visited on a day trip. From Hanoi, tourists can choose between train, bus and private car to get there.
By bus: The bus ride takes only 2 hours, and departures are daily. The bus is air-conditioned and very comfortable, which is why many travellers go by bus. It is recommended that you buy your ticket at least one day in advance.
By train: For the train, the ticket is simply booked at the hotel or at the Hanoi train station. The price is only $3-4 and the conditions on the train will not disappoint you.
By private car: It is also possible to rent a private car to get around Tam Coc. After only a 2-hour drive from the capital of Hanoi, you arrive in this charming destination that is quite unique in Southeast Asia.

Rowing boat ride
The most beautiful thing to do during the rice harvesting season in Tam Coc is a rowboat ride along the Ngo Dong River. To avoid the busy times, head to the Tam Coc pier in the early morning or late afternoon. This allows you to contemplate its sublime landscapes immersed in picturesque rice fields and vast stretches of water at a leisurely pace.
In addition, as the weather can sometimes be very hot during the golden season, we advise you to take sun cream, sunglasses, a hat or an umbrella to protect yourself. There is no shelter on the boat so tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery and take nice pictures of the golden rice fields without any obstacles.
At the Tam Coc pier, choose your rowing boat from an impressive number of boats and start drifting along with the current. For about 2 hours, along the calm and clear Ngo Dong River, you will see a huge carpet of rice fields turning a beautiful yellow.

The first route starts from Tam Coc pier towards Thung Nham. With a length of about 7 kilometres, this route is accessible to everyone and will allow you to take beautiful pictures of some of the most beautiful landscapes of Tam Coc such as Thung Nham bird sanctuary, famous Bich Dong pagoda, wonderful golden rice fields, impressive karst formations.
The second route also starts from Tam Coc pier but takes you to Mua Cave which means “Cave of the Dance”. During this beautiful bike ride of about 3.5 kilometres, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the land-based Halong Bay consisting of exotic limestone mountains, breathtaking rice fields and idyllic villages.
Climb Hang Mua Mountain
Climbing Hang Mua Peak on foot is considered one of the must-do activities when visiting Tam Coc. The Dance Cave itself is not very impressive for visitors. However, it offers a great panoramic view of beautiful limestone mountain ranges and picturesque golden rice fields.
In order to conquer the peak of this cave, you have to climb about 500 steps. Please remember to wear good shoes and take a bottle of water. After your efforts, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the green valley, with the gentle Ngo Dong River winding through lush rice fields as far as the eye can see.
